Later renamed Brooks City-Base in 2002, the base was recommended for closure by the Defense Base Realignment and Closure Commission in 2005. Brooks City-Base was officially closed September 15, 2011. Today Brooks is one of 40 former installations managed by the Air Force Civil Engineer Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Brooks City-Base is a United States Air Force facility located 7 miles southeast of Downtown San Antonio.

In 2002 Brooks Air Force Base was renamed Brooks City-Base.

Brooks Air Force Base is one of the oldest facilities in the United States Air Force, being established on December 8, 1917 as Brooks Field, being one of the initial World War I Army Air Service installations.
